SATURAY 26th September Film Bio’s:
Buoyancy Dir. Jonathan Stromberg - On Taiwan’s remote east coast, Apoo Lee runs Buoyancy Board Store, a small, alternative surf shop built on craft, community, and the stoke for Taiwan’s ever-changing waves.
At a time when surfing feels oversaturated, Apoo’s world is a reminder of what it’s really about, a life shaped by the ocean and the people who share it.
Through his lens, we glimpse Taiwan’s thriving alt-surf scene, from local shaper Anthony to visiting surfers and shapers redefining the way lines are drawn here.
The Granny Grommets Dir Leah Rustomjee - A grommet, in surf lexicon, stands for a surfing newbie, usually a younger person. The Granny Grommets, however, are claiming the term for themselves, ignoring the looming threats of sharks and concerns of their worried offspring to embrace the waves, with bodyboards in tow. The group, based in the coastal town of Albany in Western Australia, was formed in 1999 and has been growing from strength to strength ever since...to date there are nearly 90 members taking to the waves every Friday morning, come rain or shine!
An Mor Dir Guy Potter - An Mor: Where the Tides Speak is a captivating Cornish-English eco-adventure short film that explores the profound relationship between identity, belonging, and the natural world. A global collaboration between the UK, Canada, and Australia, the film reflects the universal connection to the ocean and its vital role in sustaining life on Earth.
Surf, Eat, Repeat… Dir Karen Song - SURF, EAT, REPEAT...takes you on a frothy, mouthwatering local adventure around New York City’s surf and ethnic food scene through a diverse crew of women who share waves, meals and personal narratives that express the rich flavor of NYC's surf community and diverse immigrant heritage... reflecting just how yummy it is.
A Thousand Lives - Told through a remarkable collection of voice notes from the other side of life and death, A Thousand Lives is an intimate, experimental portrait of Cornish big wave surfer Tom Lowe following multiple near fatal accidents in Tahiti at the world's most dangerous wave, Teahupoo. Raw, vulnerable and deeply human, the film traces Tom’s journey through trauma, to redemption as he confronts mortality, rebuilds his spirit, and returns to Mullaghmore in Ireland, the mystical wave location that defined his career and becomes the setting for an extraordinary act of renewal.
DEFECT - Former Film.
